So in this post i want to tell you about someone who is one of the most inspiring people that i know, i heard about him from Ted Talk, his name is Arel Moodie, and he is a bestselling author, entrepreneur, coach and professional public speaker.
In his Ted Talk, he talked about his struggle to his success in his life. So, he was in the smart class students in his elementary school, almost of his exams he never study before it, and he still had the best score in his class, and everyone in his class said that he smart, so he realized "Oh, i'm smart". Until he hit junior high.
In junior high, he said that he was really dumb there, he had really bad score, and the craziest thing happened when he was in class and when the teacher will be talking and he will be like, have you ever had that face where on the outside you look like 100% paying attention but on the inside you have no idea what's been happening, he mastered that, so he also cannot ask for help to anyone because he is "the smart kid" and if he asked, than he is not "smart" and he just shut his mouth and it went into highschool and he just got way worse that before.
In highschool he was in a science class, and he was not a science person, when he in class, he was cannot understand about any of chemistry, biology, and math, it's like listening to the people that had a different language, he also didn't understand math. So for him, science was a hard subject and he failed and he was told that if he was pass the science class, that he will be able to graduated, so in his mind he is facing not be able to graduated.
So he was depressed and almost wanted to commit suicide, because he said " I have no future, i'm not smart, i have no talent, so what's the point, i rather die than being alive ". In his 16, he was in his rooftop in his apartmen and just look down and almost facing his death, but a voice inside of him said "Not yet". Because of that thought of not yet, he went back to his room and just depressed.
Luckily, he have an amazing family, his father wanted to take him somewhere, so he jump into the car and then he went to a nice neighbourhood near his house, and his father said "one day, you can have those things". He said "there is no way i can have those things", because teenage think that success is a big house and a nice car. But one things change his live, his father said "we was given a problem, so that we can overcome them and be the person that you were meant to be"
"If you put effort to it, and you go to the other side, there is where the magic happened, that's where the success come from" his father said. So, in school he made a deal with his chemistry teacher, if he pass the exam, his teacher have to gave him a passing grade, with final exam was cumulative, so she said deal.
After that, he started a strange things, if he is in class and didn't understand the concepts, he will raise his hand until he got it, during lunch he will study with tutor to learn and also before went home he will went to tutor again, and before and after school he will do some practice problem. In few month, he pass the exam, and then he graduated.
In university, he does the same things, he will ask if he didn't understand until he got it, he will went to his professor about his paper work even there's no exam coming, he also studied with the smart students. And because of his effort he was one of the top five exemplary students out of 16.000 students, and he named "Outstanding graduating senior" and the president of 4 student organization.
So, from that story, we know that effort is the key to be success, if you wanted to be good at something, put effort on it and you will be able to have it. Thank you.
